Open Water Information

PADI Open water diver course

The PADI Open Water Diver Course, is your initial step into the wonderful, rewarding world of scuba diving.  Our class only cost $425 which, unlike other shops, covers your lifetime certification fees, college credit, training materials, classroom instruction, confined water (pool dives), open water dives, and scuba rental gear for your confined water dives.  You only need to have your basic gear for the course, which we will give a discount on when you sign up for class. Please come in and get your gear before class.  Then you can buy your gear for the open water dives, but if you want to wait to buy your gear you can rent ours for your open water dives for a discounted rate of only $45.00 for both days of open water diving.  There will be a park entry fee which is only $15.00 per day in Rolla.

Classes typically begin on Saturday at Scuba Adventure.  We will start promptly at 11:00 a.m. and go straight through until about 5:30 p.m. so be sure to eat an early lunch.  You are welcome to bring drinks and snacks to eat in class as well.  Please bring your course book, a notepad and a pen or pencil for class.  After the classroom session we will break for supper then regroup at the YMCA for the pool session.  The YMCA has locker rooms and shower facilities available.  There will be a short swim test first thing.  Don’t worry; it’s not a timed test and you do not need to be a strong swimmer.  Next you will learn how to properly use your mask, fins, and snorkel.  Then we will get into the scuba portion of the class.  Again, we are not in a hurry and will spend all time you need to feel comfortable with the skills you are learning.  You will have a great time!

OPEN WATER DIVES:

After the classroom and pool sessions, you are required to do two days of open water dives before getting your certification.  We normally do these dives in a quarry in Rolla on scheduled dates and times, but they can also be completed at Mermet Springs, Pennyroyal or on one of Scuba Adventure’s dive trips.  I am willing to work around your schedule when necessary to get these dives in but at a private lesson fee of $135.00 per student (minimum 2).

Remember you are required to have a mask, fins, snorkel, and dive boots for class. Scuba Adventure offers discounts on these items purchased by the student, and we normally can match or beat any online prices.  Your rental BCD, regulator, gages, tank, weights, and wet suit are included in the cost of the course for confined water dives.  Open water dives have a special $40 reduced rental fee for 2 days rental for Wetsuit, Tank, Regulator, Weights, and BCD.  Please try to support your local dive shop.  Full payment for the course is due prior to the first day of class. You only need to give a $100.00 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot for the course.

Please read all your course book before class starts, and answer all of the quizzes and knowledge reviews prior to class. After hours study is also required.  Remember, you do earn college credit for this course as well, just remind me to get you the paperwork for it if you need it.  As always, If you have any questions feel free to call me at the shop (573) 634-3483 or on my cell at (314) 540-4162.  I look forward to having you in class soon.  This is something you will not regret, and the memories will be amazing!

Please fill out this "Medical Form" and bring to class.
